About Us

Farmworkers' strike march in the 1960s

The César E. Chávez Institute is a unique institution that works to create a rich learning environment for practictioners, students, scholars, and advocates.

CCI strives to bridge academic research and the practice in the areas of health, education and self-determination for all peoples of color and marginalized communities in the United States.

We understand and affirm that individuals and communities, though disenfranchized due to structural injustices and historical oppression, always have the resilience and strength to empower themselves and create new, brilliant futures.

Our academic home is the SFSU College of Ethnic Studies, the first Ethnic Studies department in the English-speaking world.
